Wind Technician Training with Collegia College

Icon clock

Status: 2025 with possibility of returning in 2026

Category: Wind Technician

Summary

In 2025, we launched a 10-week, entry-level Wind Technician training program in partnership with Collégia College to prepare local candidates for opportunities with MU2 and future projects. This initiative also strengthened our collaboration with Innergex and Collégia through an advanced training pathway: a Gespeg community member completed the college’s eight-month Wind Technician program, completed a six-week internship at MU, and was later hired full-time as a Wind Technician. We anticipate offering this program again in 2026.

Quick Facts

Partners: Collegia College (Gaspé), Innergex

Duration: Ten-week local program, advanced 8-month program

Focus: Wind technician skills and safety

Contact: Kirt Dedam at kdedam@mmcorporation.ca

What this training offered

MMBC worked with Collegia College in Gaspé and Innergex to shape wind technician training programs that reflect community needs and industry standards. These partnerships allowed us to explore local delivery options so that participants from across Gespe’gewa’gi could access training closer to home.

Who it supported

The ten-week training helped prepare entry-level technicians, while additional advanced options were available through Collegia. Five recent graduates have already moved into opportunities with employers such as East Coast Wind, contributing directly to the regional renewable energy workforce. One community member from Gespeg was also hired onto MU.

Why it matters

From the beginning, the goal was to have skilled local technicians in place for MU1 and MU2 construction and operation, and to continue building capacity for future wind projects in the territory. Community members interested in similar training can contact Kirt to learn about potential new cohorts or related programs.
