A 14-week program, in partnership with Nordex, designed to develop Wind Turbine Technicians from the region for the MU2 Wind Project, including full certification, hands-on modules and employer-funded training.
Partner: Nordex
Duration: 14 weeks (plus follow-on development levels)
Start Date: January 2026
Format: Online learning, in-community practical sessions, and internship / on-site training
Communities: Offered to Gesgapegiag, Gespeg, and Listuguj members
The training begins with a 10-day onboarding program at Nordex’s Training Academy (in West Branch, Iowa), covering certifications such as GWO Basic Safety, First Aid, CPR, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, and turbine-safety induction.
After the onboarding, trainees progress through Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 technician development. This includes online modules, in-person instruction and practical exercises using Nordex’s mobile maintenance training unit in Canada. The unit provides hands-on practice in generator alignment, lubrication systems, blade and wind-sensor alignment, pitch/slip-ring work, and torque and tension simulations.
Nordex emphasized that all required courses and certifications will be fully funded by the employer. They are hired as employees as soon as training commences, and they start receiving a salary even during training.
Community members who are physically fit, safety-minded, willing to work on towers, comfortable with both mechanical and electrical tasks, and eager to learn technical trade skills. Good for those who want a long-term career pathway in renewable energy. Minimum requirements are a high school diploma, wind school, or experience working with power tools, which is an asset.
Information sessions have already been held in Gesgapegiag and Listuguj, and online access was offered for Gespeg community members. To express interest, or to receive updates on next steps and how to apply, contact Amanda or Kirt at MMBC.
