A two-day hands-on traineeship that introduces participants to wind energy through practical electrical/mechanical work and a guided tour of the MU site. The traineeship also includes a safety orientation and a tower climb with a wind technician.
Partners: MMBC and Innergex
Instructor: Jonathan Jean (Gespeg), former wind technician and instructor
Duration: Two days - The first day is led by Jonathan Jean, and day two (tower climb) is led by a wind technician from MU
Focus: Hands-on electrical/mechanical training, tower climb, and site tour
Contact for future interest: Kirt Dedam at kdedam@mmcorporation.ca.
To strengthen local expertise in wind energy, MMBC partnered with Innergex to create the traineeship program. Participants learned directly from Jonathan Jean, a former wind technician and instructor from Gespeg, who provided hands-on guidance grounded in real industry experience.
Over two days, trainees participated in practical electrical/mechanical activities, received a detailed safety orientation, climbed a 100-meter tower, and toured the MU site. This gave them a clearer understanding of what it means to work around turbines, the level of communication required on a wind technician team, and the related infrastructure.
The traineeship helps community members build confidence, explore renewable energy careers, and prepare for more advanced training opportunities. Community members interested in similar future initiatives can reach out to Kirt to learn what might be offered next.
